The final engagement phase on the Comprehensive Plan closed on March 20th. Additional feedback can still be provided directly through the public hearing and adoption process.
Staff has been organizing all the community input received during these two months of engagement. These engagement highlights, which include information on the engagement process, who we engaged, and what residents said, can be viewed here: Engagement Highlights. For transparency, all the input received during this engagement phase is linked within the highlights as well. This information will be provided to the Planning Commission, the City Council, and the Board of County Commissioners as part of the public hearing and adoption process.
Formal Adoption Process
The formal adoption process for the Comprehensive Plan began on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at a meeting of the Planning Commission. The second public hearing before the Planning Commission was held on Tuesday, March 28, 2023. The Planning Commission continued this public hearing to their April 11 regular meeting where only Commission discussion occurred. The final public hearing before this Commission will be at a special Planning Commission meeting on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Participation is possible either in person or virtually through Zoom. Interpretation services are available. More information about the Planning Commission hearing, and subsequent meetings in the formal adoption process can be found here: https://engagedurham.com/201/Adoption-Process.
After the Planning Commission has completed their public hearings and voted on a recommendation for the Comprehensive Plan, the City Council and the Board of County Commissioners will hold a joint public hearing on this project. It is anticipated that this joint public hearing will be held at a special meeting in August of 2023.
