Everyone! This is a community-centered process. We want to hear about your values and priorities. We will revisit our engagement strategies to make sure we are reaching all residents. Inviting everyone’s feedback is crucial to a successful plan. Groups involved in the plan include:

Public

We want to hear from all members of our community. Guided by the Equitable Engagement Blueprint, we will engage members of communities that have been underrepresented in government processes.

Engagement Ambassadors

This is a group of residents connected to parts of our community that staff may not be able to fully engage. Ambassadors are engaging underrepresented communities to make sure they are included in the process and that their voices are heard. Ambassadors receive a stipend for their outreach work. The efforts of these Ambassadors was the most successful part of initial engagement on the Comprehensive Plan and Transit Plan.

Durham Transit Team Staff

Local government staff from the City of Durham Transportation Department, the City of Durham Neighborhood Improvement Services, and the Durham City-County Planning Department are serving on the leadership, outreach, and technical committees.

  • Leadership Team – Oversee and provide guidance through the plan’s development.
  • Outreach Committee – Develop materials and surveys to create awareness of the engagement process within the community. This team provides guidance on how to achieve widespread, representative, and equitable community involvement.
  • Technical Committee – Provide technical expertise in the development of Transit Plan.

Stakeholders and Focus Groups

The Durham Transit Plan team will conduct targeted engagement with various groups through meetings and interviews to inform specific aspects of the plan. We will maintain consistent communication and collaboration with these groups to promote understanding and support for the final Transit Plan. These groups include:

  • local businesses
  • neighborhood organizations
  • education groups including local schools and universities
  • religious institutions
  • medical institutions
  • non-profits
